Digitalisation is shaking up our private and professional habits. The new digital tools make it possible, on the one hand, to order food or book your next holiday and, on the other, to automate numerous industrial processes or personalise an offer based on the target clientele.
The finance and insurance sectors are no exception. For example, crypto-currencies and digital money projects led by both the United States and China are disrupting the market and raising new issues, both in terms of control and monetary sovereignty.
Your institutions therefore need to optimise their IT processes so that they have high-performance, secure tools to meet the new habits of their customers. NRB invites you to delve into these fascinating and strategic issues at a round-table discussion on 28 May in Brussels.
This event, which will be held in English, will give you the opportunity to hear an inspiring presentation by Dr Bruno Colmant, Ph.D. in Applied Economics and Member of the Royal Academy of Belgium, as well as to exchange views with guests facing the same issues as you. Together, we will look at the issues that particularly affect you and try to identify practical solutions.

11:00: Introduction by Frédéric Hertogs, Director Financial Services Industry - NRB
11:10: Presentation by Doctor Bruno Colmant, Ph.D. in Applied Economics and Member of the Royal Academy of Belgium: The great monetary shift
After a long period of stability, money is now undergoing its most profound transformation. Since 2008, central banks have created massive amounts of liquidity, upsetting traditional monetary eqiulibrium. New forms are emerging: Chinese digital currency linked to citizen control, the digital euro project challenged by European banks, and the rise of private American stablecoins. Some banks are now planning their own private currencies.
These developments raise two major questions: are we witnessing a renationalisation of money, and what are the real issues of monetary sovereignty?
11:55: Round table
12:30: Walking lunch
